Introduction Post!
Welcome to Voices of Brass
Welcome to Voices of Brass, a blog dedicated to exploring the fascinating world of brass ensembles! Whether you’re a seasoned brass musician, a student of music, or simply someone who loves the sound of brass instruments, this space is for you. My name is Robert Krause, a professional Trumpeter that has returned to the world of education to get my Master's in Trumpet Performance from the University of Iowa.
The purpose of this blog is to shine a light on professional brass ensembles, their recordings, and the unique roles that each instrument plays within these groups. From the classic Brass Quintet to New Orleans-Style Brass Bands and everything else in-between, we’ll dive into what makes brass ensembles so special. Along the way, I’ll also connect these recordings to topics covered in my Advanced Brass Pedagogy and Literature class, sharing insights and reflections that hopefully inspire and inform your own musical journey.
Each post will focus on a specific recording or listening experience, offering a closer look at the artistry and technical brilliance that professional brass ensembles bring to their performances. I’ll also explore how individual instruments contribute to the overall sound, occasionally highlighting less traditional roles or unexpected musical moments.
Thank you for joining me on this journey through the world of brass music. I hope Voices of Brass will be both informative and enjoyable, whether you’re here to learn something new or simply to celebrate the vibrant voices of brass. Posts will be published every Sunday evening!
